Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping Surgery)
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to reshape the nose. It adjusts the physical components of the nose that people are most dissatisfied with, and also corrects structural problems that can cause breathing problems.
The nose is easily noticed because it is at the center of the face, and this often prompts people to fix any concerns they have with it. At Bandak Plastic Surgery we’re called upon to perform many nose surgeries each year. Rhinoplasty may require us to correct a dorsal hump, asymmetric tip, or crooked nose, increase/decrease the size of the nose, or improve breathing function.
The Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, and is done using general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. The incisions are placed inside the nose, so they are not visible post-surgery. The extent and duration of the operation will depend on the aesthetic modifications required, but surgery typically lasts for 1 to 2 hours.
Recovery
The nose will be bandaged after surgery, and a nasal splint used to keep the bones intact. Swelling and bruising is normal, but patients can minimize swelling by keeping the head elevated as much as possible.
Recovery takes about 7 days, as the swelling should resolve by this time, and bruising should be at a minimum. However, strenuous exercises should be avoided until the nose is fully healed, and this can take 4 to 8 weeks.
Are you a good candidate?
If you are unhappy with the look of your nose, or your nose has been damaged in some way, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty. However, it’s also very important that you have realistic expectations about the possible outcome of surgery.
