Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Gravity, breast-feeding, and aging can all have a dramatic effect on the breasts, causing them to droop and sag. A breast lift is an excellent way to restore shape and firmness of the breasts. The procedure is well-suited for patients that have sagging breasts or ptosis.
Mastopexy elevates the breast tissue and repositions downward pointing nipples, making the breasts appear rounded and more youthful. Women who also want fuller breasts can combine breast augmentation with a breast lift. You can find out more about breast augmentation here.
Breast Lift Incisions
There are different approaches that can be used when performing breast lift surgery, but the choice depends on your anatomy and personal goals. Dr. Bandak may perform a Peri-areolar, Crescent, Inverted T, or Vertical lift. Some scarring is to be expected, regardless of the technique used. However, because of his extensive experience in plastic surgery, Dr. Bandak is able to significantly minimize scarring during breast lift surgery.
The Procedure
Breast lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia, and can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. During the procedure Dr. Bandak will remove excess skin, reposition the nipple, and adjust the areola if it has been stretched.
What is Recovery Like?
There will be noticeable bruising and swelling immediately after surgery, and these symptoms generally take 7 to 10 days to resolve. Patients may also experience some pain, but medication will be prescribed to ease the discomfort. Dressings and bandages are usually removed the day after surgery, and patients can go back to work within 7 to 10 days. However, residual effects may persist after this time.
Risks
Irregularity in breast shape, changes in nipple sensation, and scarring, are possible risks of breast lift surgery.
