Liposuction (Lipoplasty)
Liposuction is an effective way to sculpt and reshape the body, and create youthful contours. Liposuction is among the most popular procedures we do here at Bandak Plastic Surgery, Charleston, West Virginia. We get regular requests for the procedure from patients who need to eliminate stubborn fat deposits, from specific parts of the body.
Areas typically targeted for liposuction include the upper arms, hips, knees, buttocks, abdomen, thighs, and flanks.
Who is a good candidate?
Liposuction is a good choice for people already at their ideal weight who have zones of unwanted fat that they cannot reduce, despite a healthy diet regular exercise.
It is not recommended for obese individuals, and should not be seen as a substitute for weight loss and a suitable diet and exercise program. It is also not recommended for men and women with very loose skin, as the procedure does not tighten the skin.
The Procedure
Several liposuction techniques are available at Bandak Plastic surgery. With the traditional approach, incisions are made in the areas targeted for treatment. A cannula or small tube is then inserted via these incisions, and is used to break up the fatty deposits. The cannula has a suction device attached that is used to remove the unwanted fat.
Recovery
Patients are advised to have someone accompany them to the procedure, so that they can be driven home. After the procedure there will be some swelling and bruising. While the swelling will resolve within 7 days, the bruising can take 3 weeks or more to clear.
Rest is recommend for the first few days after treatment, but a little walking is permitted within 24 hours. A normal exercise program should not be restarted until at least 3 weeks after surgery.
