Laser Hair Removal

Eliminating unwanted hair can be a chore if you’re still waxing, tweezing, shaving, or plucking, but laser technology has made hair removal a lot easier. Areas commonly marked for laser hair removal include the legs, bikini line, underarms, and face. At Bandak Plastic Surgery, we use the Alexandrite & Nd: YAG lasers for long lasting hair removal.

Technology

The wavelength of the Alexandrite makes it ideal for hair removal for lighter skin types, while the Nd: YAG is more effective on darker skin types. These lasers are fast and efficient, and are built using superior technology that allows them to reach the deepest hairs.

The Procedure

The lasers emit pulses of energy that target the melanin (dark pigment) in the hair. The hair follicle gets heated, and is eventually destroyed. Once the hair follicle is damaged, the hair will no longer grow. The Alexandrite & ND: YAG lasers can target large areas of hair during treatment.

How many treatments will you need?

It typically takes about 6 to 8 treatments spaced at least 4 weeks apart, to achieve permanent hair reduction. However, the hair removal process can be influenced by factors such as skin type, hair coarseness, and hair color.

Why you need multiple treatments

Multiple treatments are required because the hairs don’t all grow at the same time, so they are not affected by the laser treatment at one go. Hair is susceptible to treatment only when it is in the active or growth cycle. During this phase the hair root is well developed and has a large amount of melanin, so it can be easily targeted by the laser. Lasers do not impact hair when it is in the transition and resting cycles.
