Lower body Lift Surgery
A lower body lift is a surgical procedure that is often performed to shape and contour the body after dramatic weight loss. It is very similar to a belt lipectomy, as it also involves the removal of a band of fat and tissue from around the waist line. However the lower body lift is a more extensive procedure, as it tightens the abdomen, buttocks, outer thighs, hips, and back of the thighs.
The Procedure
For a lower body lift, the surgeon makes an incision around the entire waistline. Excess tissue and fat is removed from the abdominal area, and the thighs. The skin is also tightened. Drains are usually inserted under the skin of the abdomen and thighs, to remove excess fluid. The operation is very extensive and can last for 6 to 8 hours.
Recovery
Since the lower body lift is a major surgical procedure, a hospital stay ranging from 1 to 3 days is required for observation. Patients can expect post-operative bruising and swelling that may last up to 4 weeks. You may also be asked to wear a compression garment for several weeks. There will be some improvement immediately after surgery, but full recovery takes 4 to 8 weeks.
Who is a good candidate?
